3 rd Indo-German Conference on 'Packaging Printing' 22-23 November, 2011 in Mumbai, India. See under 'downloads'

Graphic Arts Technology & Education is an organization involved in technical consultancy and education within the printing and graphic arts industry. During the last three decades the printing and related industries have grown enormously and there has been a lot of revolutionary changes in technology, especially with the advent of electronic computers. Consequently, there is a great need for investigative work in various areas of printing and related fields, such as material behaviour, standardisation, etc. as well as scientific training of the entire workforce to work on the high-tech technology and equipments.

Graphic Arts Technology & Education having realised this, has fully devoted itself to the standardisation of the production processes, training and education, project consultancies, etc. The approach is unique in the sense that the people in the industry are trained on the equipment considering local conditions, they operate in production. There is also a Colour Training Centre in Mumbai where the training is carried out with the latest generation of Colour Measurement and Management equipment.

Standardisation includes total standardisation of the printing processes from origination to the finishing and developing quality control parameters on scientific methods that guarantee quality in production. This also improves productivity by cutting down consumables wastage and machine downtime. The training is supplemented with the specially prepared training material and audio-visuals.

Over 150 companies have taken the advantages of our services and the customers include some of the leading companies in the print and print related industries in India and overseas.

Graphic Arts Technology & Education now has a co-operation with the leading, world renowned prestigious university devoted to the printing and graphic arts as well as functional printing technology research, the Institute for Print and Media Technology, Chemnitz University of Technology, Chemnitz, Germany, www.tu-chemnitz.de/pm to undertake research projects, organise scientific and technical conferences and many other related activities. These activities are carried out under the name pmIndia www.pm-india.in .

Institute for Print and Media Technology and its cooperation with India in recent years

Since the formation of the Institute for Print and Media Technology at Chemnitz University of Technology (pmTUC) www.tu-chemnitz.de/pm , Germany in 1998, research at the pmTUC is mainly focused on four areas : conventional printing technologies, digital printing technologies, colour and documents, and printed electronics. The institute maintains close and co-operation with IFRA, FOGRA, VDMA, OE-A, etc. Since its inception, the pmTUC has had many revolutionary, innovative and useful developments through research (e.g. free gamut technology, spray inking unit for offset, first mass-printed ring oscillator etc.).

Since 2004, the pmTUC has steadily established and developed contacts with the Indian printing industry and relevant universities. In 2008, the first major research project, which was supported by IFRA Germany and IFRA South Asia, was jointly carried out with Manipal University. The project, which ran from February 2008 to February 2009, was concerned with the question if there are standardised planning concepts for the establishment of new newspaper printing plants in India. The universities were supported by Indian companies, such as Manugraph Industries, TechNova Imaging Systems, The Hindu, Manipal Press, and SLK Cyril Graphics (GOSS India). The findings of the research project were published as an IFRA special report.

The cooperation agreement between Chemnitz University of Technology and Manipal University was signed in July 2008 and provides a strong basis for the co-operation and underlines the commitment and support of the heads of both universities to further nurture and strengthen their relationship.

Graphic Arts Technology & Education and the Institute for Print and Media Technology, Chemnitz University of Technology, Chemnitz, Germany, www.tu-chemnitz.de/pm and www.pm-india.in , have very successfully jointly organized conferences in India on Packaging Printing Technology and Colour Management.
